Paint.NET: An Image Editor for the Rest of Us

Paint.NET

A while back (6 months or more) I was assigned a project at work that required a lot of image editing. As a developer I do not have much knowledge or use for advanced image editing applications like Adobe Photoshop or GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program). So I looked for something easy to use and has all the features we need to prepare the images in the project.

After skimming through some search results I found Paint.NET, and its reviews were 4/5 or 5/5 everywhere. When I tried it I immediately liked it. It’s feature packed and very easy to use. Now that the project is finished I still use it to prepare images for the blog.

Paint.NET is available for Windows only and its free. It was developed in .NET Framework using C# and some C++. There is a Linux port: An unofficial effort to port Paint.NET 3.0 to Linux using Mono but I did not try it yet. The main advantage I found that Paint.NET was developed in .NET is that they provide a plug-in template as a Visual Studio 2005 Add-In for the developers who want to extend the application, which I intend to try out soon.

To download the application go to:
